Hey everyone! I’ve mentioned before that one of my goals for this year is to read more of my backlist books. As part of this, I’ve made a list of 12 books that I have been saying for YEARS “oh I must read that soon” – seriously, I just never seem to pick these ones up and I don’t know why. So I’m making this post to hold myself accountable. By the end of 2019, I will have read all of these books!
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Perfume by Patrick Suskind
A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab
The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov
Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke
The Girl with All the Gifts by M. R. Carey
White Teeth by Zadie Smith
The Lake House by Kate Morton
Here I Stand by Amnesty International
Flawed by Cecilia Ahern
Uprooted by Naomi Novik
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
Have you read any of these books? Which one do you recommend I start with? Also, I’ve floated the idea on Instagram of a readalong of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, as so many people seem to have it on their shelves but feel intimidated by its size. Let me know if that’s something you’d be interested in?! x
Great list! Iβve only read one of those…The Hate You Give. Good luck on your reading list! ππHappy Reading!

so many good books in this list! The Master and Margarita is amazing but weird and THUG is so powerful. I co-run a big book bookclub called the #abouttome bookclub on IG and we are going to be group reading jonathan strange in july so feel free to join in if you still haven’t read it by then!

Nice list! I would really recommend White Teeth by Zadie Smith. She is one of my favorite authors.

Thanks! For some reason, that’s one of the books on this list that most intimidates me, though I don’t know why?! So I’m glad to hear you love it π

I have a few of these on my TBR too, although I am obsessing over that cover of The Master and Margarita. I have never heard of that book but I just read the synopsis and WOW!

I would highly recommend Memoirs of a Geisha – though it has had a few controversy surrounding the fact that the author is not Japanese and therefore was not able to write the story in an authentic way. It’s still a beautiful read though, and so is White Teeth. I really need to read more Zadie Smith books! π

Ooh yay, Memoirs hasn’t gotten a huge response yet so I’m happy to hear you recommend it! And I’ve got three Zadie Smith books on my shelf so I need to get to her soon! π
